How do you know if the car dealer website provider you’re talking to is going to get you a site that will perform well in the search engines? Follow these tips:

- Investigate sites made by the provider. Are they ranking well? Are they ranking well DESPITE the website? How do you know if they are? If the search engines are not seeing content, then they are ranking thanks to links. If you want to count on links only, that’s fine. But to be as competitive as possible make sure that when you visit the Google’s cached text of a sample page that it has content on it.

- Are inventory items index in search engines?

- Are there good keywords and phrases in the URL structure? For example, is the inventory page something like new-cars.htm or new-cars/? Look for these keyphrases and stay away from underscores.

- How many pages are indexed? Do a search like site:http://www.domain.com in Google to see how many pages of the site Google is aware of. The more the merrier.

Do your homework and your car dealership will have an advantage when it launches.
